Juli wearing a handmade cardigan
Hi, I'm Juli

I've been crocheting for as long as I can remember.

What started as a way to unwind turned into a little library of patterns. I design pieces I actually want to wear and use, then write them up clearly — with photos, stitch counts and notes — so they're a joy to make.

Everything here is made and tested by hand, right here at home.

About julimakes

Hi, I'm Juli — and yes, I make things.

About Me

I first learned to crochet as a way to cope with chronic physical pain. When the pain became overwhelming, I searched for something mindful that could help distract me and keep my hands and mind busy. I started with knitting, and while I still enjoy picking up my knitting needles from time to time, crochet quickly became my favourite yarn craft—and, I'll happily admit, a bit of an obsession! Since then, I've rarely put my crochet hook down.

What began as a way to manage pain and unwind after work gradually turned into a growing collection of handmade projects, a library of crochet patterns, and more yarn than I ever imagined I could own.

As my confidence grew, I began testing patterns for other crochet designers, something I still love doing today. It's incredibly rewarding to see the creativity behind every design, and I have so much admiration for the talented designers in our crochet community.

As my family grew, so did the list of requests from my children, nieces, and nephews. They always seemed to have wonderfully imaginative ideas, but I couldn't always find a pattern that matched what they had in mind. So I decided to challenge myself and start designing my own.

Today, I create patterns for the pieces I genuinely want to make and use—relaxed sweaters, breezy summer tops, cuddly toys, practical accessories, and beautiful home décor. My goal is to write patterns that are clear, easy to follow, and enjoyable to crochet, with plenty of photos, stitch counts, and helpful notes so you can spend more time creating and less time trying to work out what comes next.

Every pattern you find here has been designed, made, and tested by hand in Australia. But I'll also share my journey of pattern testing and experience with other designers.

Thank you so much for visiting. I hope my patterns inspire you to pick up your crochet hook, create something you'll love, and enjoy the process every step of the way!
